Critical Sizing & Installation Guide
Please Note: All sizes listed on our website refer to the Aluminium Frame Size only. These measurements do not include timber reveals.
1. Choosing Your Reveal Option
- Timber Reveals: Used to fix the unit into the stud wall frame, providing extra support. Most brick veneer structures require a reveal for installation.
- Fin Only: For specific fixing requirements; the fin can be used for fixing or simply removed by snapping off if required.
2. Recommended Deductions for Clearance
To ensure your door or window fits into the structural opening with room to level during installation, we recommend the following deductions from your opening size:
If ordering Aluminium Frame Only:
- Windows: Deduct 10mm Height / 10mm Width.
- Doors: Deduct 5mm Height / 10mm Width.
If adding Timber Reveals:
- Windows: Deduct 50mm Height / 50mm Width.
- Doors: Deduct 30mm Height / 50mm Width.
Safety & Compliance (BCA/NCC 2013)
Does your window require an opening restrictor?
BCA 2013 (NCC 2013) stipulates that openable windows in bedrooms (where the floor level is >2m above the surface beneath and openings are <1.7m above the floor) must meet one of the following:
- Option 1: The window sash must be restricted so that a 125mm sphere subjected to a 250 N (equivalent to 25kg) force cannot pass through the opening.
- Option 2: A barrier screen be installed which must resist 250 N of outward force. The device or screen may be removable but must have a child-resistant release mechanism.
